Competen.CY 2026: three coding games, one weekend, no travel needed

If you have been waiting for a hackathon that does not ask you to book a weekend away, Competen.CY 2026 is it. The event runs entirely online on 28-29 November 2026, and it is built for people who are competitive but not necessarily veterans.

The format is three back-to-back games rather than one long build:

  • The Quiz (CTF) - capture-the-flag challenges on web and backend fundamentals.
  • Fix Me - a race to squash bugs in a deliberately broken codebase.
  • CyTiles Gamethon - the flagship: a real-time territory battle on a hex map.

Everything streams live, with mentors, a Discord community and a helper bot on hand throughout. It closes with a broadcast awards ceremony - podium, interviews and surprise prizes.

Who it suits: students, developers and designers who want something to point at in an interview. It is a solo competition, so your result is yours.

Dates to note: registration opens 1 November 2026 and closes 27 November 2026. The event itself is 28-29 November.
