Robots Meet Culture: WRO Cyprus 2026 national final set for 19 September in Nicosia

The WRO Cyprus 2026 National Robotics Competition will be held on Saturday, 19 September 2026 at European University Cyprus. It is organised by the Cyprus Computer Society under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, in collaboration with STEM Education Hellas and IET Cyprus, and supported by XM as Tech Partner.

This season's World Robot Olympiad theme is "Robots Meet Culture", asking students to look at how robots can help shape, protect and grow art and culture in today's world. Primary and secondary school pupils design, build and program robots to solve field challenges set for their age category, competing across three groups: Primary, Lower Secondary and Upper Secondary.

The 2026 rules bring some significant changes. Teams may now use open robotics platforms rather than being restricted to LEGO hardware, pre-assembled robots are permitted, and a surprise rule is revealed shortly before the competition - so teams need to be ready to rework their solution on the day.

The stakes for the national round are international. The first-placed team in each age group represents Cyprus at the WRO International Final 2026 in San Juan, Puerto Rico on 8-10 December 2026, while the second-placed team in each group heads to the WRO Open Championship Europe 2026 in Zagreb, Croatia on 13-16 October 2026.

Teams register through the organisers' online form. Full details: ccs.org.cy.
