Robotex Cyprus 2026 draws 700 competitors to Nicosia for drones, AI and SUMO robots
Robotex Cyprus 2026, the 9th Pancyprian Educational & Athletic Robotics Competition, was held on 27 and 28 June 2026 at the University of Cyprus Sports Centre in Nicosia. Organised by the Cyprus Computer Society in cooperation with the University of Cyprus, the Cyprus Youth Organisation and IET Cyprus, it remains the country's largest robotics festival.
The organisers recorded 216 teams, 709 competitors and 138 coaches over the weekend - school pupils, university students and adults from across Cyprus. The public was welcomed on both days between 10:00 and 15:00.
Competitors faced more than 20 different robotics challenges, among them Line Following, Folkrace, Maze Solving, Bowling, Archery, SUMO robot battles and Rally track racing, plus drone events and activities built around artificial intelligence, space and STEAM.
The event is run to the international ROBOTEX standards established in Estonia, and Cyprus was the first country to set Robotex up as a national competition - a point underlined by the attendance of Robotex International CEO Nathan Metsala. Cypriot teams that placed at the top of their categories qualified for the international finals: Robotex International 2026 takes place in South Korea, the first edition held outside Estonia. The awards ceremony for the qualifying Cypriot teams is set for October 2026.
