Free, one day, and about the skills rather than the models: the second ECT Forum takes over UNIC's UNESCO Amphitheatre on 8 October
The second ECT Forum takes place on Thursday 8 October 2026, 9am to 5pm, at the UNESCO Amphitheatre of the University of Nicosia. It is organised by the European Centre for Emerging Competencies and Technologies (ECECT), a Cyprus-based non-profit, and it brings together academics, researchers, technology specialists and industry representatives from Cyprus and abroad.
The framing is the useful part. Rather than another day of model demos, the forum asks how artificial intelligence and emerging technologies are changing the skills the labour market needs — and, by extension, whether education here is producing them. The programme runs across digital competencies, workforce adaptation and the alignment between what universities teach and what employers are hiring for.
One concrete thread: the forum showcases DITEC, an Erasmus+ project examining how IT education lines up with industry requirements. For anyone who has sat on either side of a graduate hiring process in Cyprus, that gap is not an abstraction.
Admission is free, but registration is required and capacity is limited — sign-up is through this form, and the full programme is at ectforum.eu. The working language is English.
Worth noting the week it sits in. The forum falls on the second day of INSPIRE 2026, the open-air entrepreneurship festival running 7–8 October a short walk away on Makariou Avenue, and the day after Innovation Cyprus 2.0. If you are going to spend one day in Nicosia this month, the choice is between a festival with 150+ speakers and a single-room forum on the unglamorous question of whether anyone will be qualified to use any of it. Both are free.
